Reconstruction of the historic G.Erenpreis bicycle factory building, built in 1938, which is an important landmark of Riga’s industrial cultural and historical environment, changing its function to an office building. The new architectural layering respects the existing form preserving the original structural system and the symmetrical character of the building with its vertical divisions.
Being located at the very beginning of new Skanste Business district and on an important intersection of two major streets, the complex strives to be an urban accent that introduces farther large scale building masses towards centre of Skanste. At the same time, its ground level commercial functions and inner courtyard design prioritises human scale and public accessibility from the street and the nearest surroundings.
In renovation of a building built in 1924 in the protection zone of the historical centre of Riga the historical construction volume was preserved and carefully restored, by highlighting the splendour facades and supplementing with modern roof construction, thereby conceptually interpreting the interplay of old and new, subtly responding to the division, proportions and scale of the façade.
